The Blacksmith Minuteman statue (one of three in Massachusetts) was commissioned by the town of Framingham and the Framingham Chapter, NSDAR. It was designed by Henry Kitson and sculpted by Henry and Alice Kitson. Dedicated in 1905, the twelve-ton statue has been moved to accommodate changes in traffic. It has been turned to face Lexington and Concord, refurbished, and remains on a traffic island in Buckminster Square on Union Avenue, the site of the original muster grounds of the Framingham militia. The Framingham Chapter assists with plantings and holiday decorations on the island.
