Chapter History
At times, chapters join forces and merge together. Amos Mills was born in West Needham, the first man from his community, now known as Wellesley, to give his life for his country in the cause of freedom. Lucy Jackson Chapter, NSDAR, was located in Newton Lower Falls, whose namesake was born 1754. Her father was a lieutenant in the French and Indian War and a direct descendant of Edward Jackson, who came to America in 1643 and was the fourth settler of Newton. Lucy was a valiant woman, whose husband, Moses Souther, died when she was twenty-five, leaving her with four small children and a farm. She did the farm work alone and raised her children, exemplifying the virtues of courage and determination.
