In 1901, Charlotte Drinkwater recognized that children needed "hygienic food and dress, pure air, abundance of sleep, loving care and sympathy." Today Hillside School "provides a structured and supportive academic community for young adolescent boys. Both traditional learners and those with learning differences benefit from the small classes and individualized attention. The boys develop academic and social skills, while building confidence and maturity. At Hillside, boys from a broad range of socioeconomic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to discover their own paths toward success.

For 75 years, the Daughters of the American Revolution have maintained a partnership with Hillside School and supported its goals. The current State Regent's Project is to establish the MDAR Archival Library housed at the Hillside School.
